Fallen Angel

I limp along the road
with broken wings
from years of blindly
flying into things.

My halo tarnished
and my feathers worn
I look upon the others
and I mourn

the opportunities
and concord missed
because I did not
fit onto their list

of gleaming halo,
feathers, blinding white
untouched by life
and uncorrupt' by night.

This reminds me of several different Christmas specials I've seen where an angel is portrayed as "less than perfect." In the end, they always have a special purpose for being here. It is with experience and tarnishing that we can find compassion for others and ourselves.

That's beautiful. Too many of us think that people should fit our "perfect" mold and reject them if they don't. As you say, experience and "tarnishing" is how we gain compassion.
